Do This Before LEAVING Seminar
July 20th, 2008 by Ann Vertel
One of my favorite things in the world is to watch the sunrise at the seashore. While I was on vacation recently, I stood on the beach each morning with a hot mug of coffee and thought about my life, my work, and my future. Everything seemed crystal clear. I gained such perspective - it seems you always do when you are away from the thick of it all.
After returning home, I sat at my desk with my eyes closed and remembered the decisions I had made on the beach. Well, attempted to remember. You see, I hadn’t written them down completely before I left the beach so I was in the position of trying to recreate the mental clarity I had when I was there. I came close but I’m sure I missed a few insights that I just won’t get back.
Seminar is a heart-stopping experience, a pivotal moment in time, an extraordinary memory for life.
And it will give you enormous perspective.
If you do nothing else with regard to what you gain and learn at this powerful annual convention, write down what you think, what you feel, and what you decide before you leave to return home. It is critical that you do this while you are in the moment.
In addition to the decisions and commitments that you make, answering these questions may give you additional fuel for your mental fire:
- What was your greatest insight about the company?
- What surprised you the most about the people you met?
- What is the most powerful thing you learned about yourself?
- What one skill did you observe that, if you mastered it, would have the greatest positive impact on your career?
- Who touched your heart and why?
- What was your most unforgettable moment?
- And how will you use that memory to remind yourself of your “why?”

Ann,
You are so right! Seminar is a place to focus and dream your dream…but it needs to be on paper or you forget, just as you mentioned. It is difficult to find some one on one time with you and creation while there, but the early morning is very quiet. There is also a few moments of reflection at the airport while you are waiting to return to the ‘real world’. Very good suggestion and your articles are very thought provoking. Thank you so much.

Ann, thank you for reenforcing the very thing that we know yet don’t always apply. The pink Mary Kay bubble at seminar is an incredible place to be, yet we can’t fully recapture those moments unless we act while we’re there.
Thank you so much for these tips.

Ann, Boy did you hit the nail on the head! Not only at Seminar but almost any time you have God inspired, creative thoughts, and ideas…. GOTTA “Write them down” or they are lost in all the daily noise of life! I am leaving for Seminar (tomorrow, yeah) with my goals, already prepared and IN FOCUS…. Million $ Dollar Sr. Director for Seminar 2009! Hows that for inspiration! I LOVE everything you send to me every day! They are always so, “RIGHT ON!” Thanks for being the inspiration to start my day, and how wonderfully blessed you are for your thoughtfulness and creativity that you “step out and share!” YiC

And I have my 2009 goals written down.
Everything you said is right on target, so I am going to take

Dear Ann,
I am not able to attend seminar this year. I can choose to moon over it or I can choose to get on with it. Well I’m going to get on with it. I was on a family vaca in Maui and I had those sunset times to think. I may not have been in Dallas this year but I was last year and I sure remember how fantastic it was! I still used your questions to remind my self what I want to achieve this year.
Thank you for your insperation! I am planning my attendance for next year…on paper! Along with my new goals! Director 2009!
Blessings to you,
Sue Bittler

Ann… I read the previous entry on what questions and I had those ready. It helped me when I was taking notes too. I didn’t see this entry because I would have done it. I did linger after closing session looking at the stage that I will cross several times at Seminar 2009. Thanks…. I will still go and answer the questions…
